This true story begins in 1991 when a young jogger in Boulder, CO, was plucked from a trail by a mountain lion and killed. The dramatic narrative of this young man and the eventual death of the mountain lion includes a complicated and serious conversation about the fascination and often disturbing connections between humans and nature. Author David Baron describes the confusion and subsequent behavior of wild animals whose habitat is being destroyed by humans who want to “live with nature.” Baron also lays out the agonizing human dilemmas and conflicts that result when we grapple with policies of non-interference and the need to be safe.

You don’t know one person; you’re struggling with language and you just want to make a friend.”

So says Dr. Jennifer Trujillo, Fort Lewis College associate professor of Teacher Education.

Perhaps that understanding is one of the reasons she was such a wise choice to co-author Milestones, an ESL reader being used nationwide. The other two authors are Dr. Neil J. Anderson from Brigham Young University and Jill Korey O’Sullivan, who holds her master’s degree in Education from Harvard University.

Dr. Linda Mack’s scholarship deepens musical experiences for both performers and audiences

http://explore.fortlewis.edu/homenews/fs_lindaMack.asp

What are the many modes of scholarship associated with musical performance?

That’s a question that Fort Lewis College Professor of Music Linda Mack is eager to answer.

“In music, scholarship incorporates all of the traditional forms that one considers, including publications and presentations,” she says. “The art of performance is greatly enhanced through the incorporation of scholarship that leads to a deeper understanding of the composers and the history of the repertoire that we are studying. As musicians, we also engage in scholarship through recording projects, guest conducting and clinics.”
