NAVAL ACADEMY SUMMER SEMINAR

http://compass.seacadets.org/training/summer06/nass.htm

On February 1, 2006 the United States Naval Academy opened its’ online application for current juniors (current class of 2007) to apply for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) Program. If not familiar with the NASS Program, it is a six day immersion program that runs for the first three weeks of June in three sessions (Session 1 6/3-6/8, Session 2 6/10-6/15, and Session 3 6/17-6/22). Participating in each session will be 600 of the nations top rising seniors! We want to get the word out to the best and brightest around the United States to come to NASS and hopefully become a midshipman at USNA. We need your help in reaching these young men and women and encouraging them to participate in NASS this summer.

Interested cadets can find the online application for NASS at http://www.usna.edu/admissions/nass.htm

FROM NSCC NHQ TO ALL CADETS….Just like last year, NHQ will reimburse the $300 tuition fee to each Sea Cadet who is accepted to and successfully completes NASS. Unit CO’s are to issue local orders for cadets attending, NSCTNG 003. After NASS, submit to NHQ a copy of the local orders and a receipt for the tuition expense and NHQ will reimburse each cadet via his or her unit. We did this last year and it worked well and we will do it again for 2006.

Same process for cadets accepted to the USCG AIM program as well. AIM details will also be posted when announced.

This guidance will be promulgated in the NSCC Summer Training Schedule, NSCC Information Letter 4-06, to be promulgated at the end of February, just like last year.

NSCC Recruit Training Schedule

http://compass.seacadets.org/training/summer06/rt.htm

The rest of the 2006 training schedule with all the other training will be posted about the last week of February as previously announced via Compass and this 1 MC. HOWEVER, the RT recruit training section is being posted now, in advance because 1) through superlative efforts of all RT COTC’s it has been assembled earlier this year and is consequently available earlier and 2) because we have separately requested Navy Reserve support (as we always do, but also earlier this year) and it is advantageous to Navy Reserve personnel to be able to immediately access the NSCC RT schedule on compass to schedule their NSCC AT support.

SPECIAL NOTE: There is included a SPRING RT at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. 10 through 19 March, 2006. See Compass for COTC and details.

SOLICITATION FOR PQS MANAGERS & DEVELOPMENT TEAM MEMBERS

http://www.seacadets.org/pqs/

1. On 1 November 2005 the Personnel Qualification Standard Management Group (PQSMG) will officially stand up. The PQSMG has been charged by NHQ with developing and maintaining a system of PQS manuals and lesson plans. The PQS program will establish a national standard for individual cadet training at the unit level. PQS will be a collection of training performance factors (TPO) deemed necessary for each rate. Each TPO will ensure that cadets have the requisite knowledge to be successful in their next rate.

2. In the coming years the PQSMG will be developing PQS manuals and lesson plans for each grade from E-2 through E-7. The PQSMG is seeking highly motiviated and dedicated members who are interested in being apart of this cutting edge effort. We are seeking applications for the following positions:

    a. PQS Manager. There will be one PQS manager per PQS manual. The PQS manager will oversee the development of their assigned PQS manual and coordinate development team members. Once the the PQS is complete, the PQS manager will "own" the manual and be responsible for continuously reviewing it and revising it.

    b. Development Team Member. Development team members will be responsible to their respective PQS manager and will assist with everything from research to determining standards to laying out the PQS.

3. Interested members, PO1 and above, should visit the PQSMG web site for more information. http://www.seacadets.org/pqs/

4. Questions may be sent to amunoz@seacadets.org. Interested members please make contact NLT 1 November 2005.
